Honda Vezel Preview

The Japanese mega car manufacturer Honda is all set to introduce its most stylish car in the mid segment price called the Vezel between August-September 2018. The Vezel is based on the Honda Jazz except that it has a bigger boot, hybrid engine and is the first proper Urban mini SUV launched by Honda in India. Its successful debut at the Tokyo Motor show in 2013 will most likely also make the Vezel a performer at the Indian Auto Expo in February 2018. Being an SUV the Vezel will enter the growing compact or mini SUV segment in India.

Due to the brand label, it is expected to be more upmarket than its competitors. The Vezel is expected to come with a lot of features which have never been seen in any mini SUV priced at around 11 lakh INR such as the electric parking brake and auto brake hold which enhance safety. The interiors of the vehicle are expected to be the best in the segment as Honda does not compromise on any aesthetics or technology which reduces the worth of the car. Thus, to keep a large basket of options Honda has given a choice of eight different shades of wheels in which two alloys and 1 steel wheel are going to be available for buyers in India.

Honda Vezel Design and Equipment

The Vezel looks very different from Honda BR-V and many SUV’S which fall in the same segment. However, much of the rear in Vezel is inspired from the Honda Jazz and therefore is not 360 degree different from its predecessor. The difference predominantly lies in the inclined height of the car, the exterior curves and stylish headlamps which are missing in the Jazz.

The larger wheels and different patterns of alloy options are also an important element which adds to the aesthetic feel of the vehicle. Honda is known for focusing more on engine performance and handling of its vehicles. However, we can see a gradual shift in Honda’s deliverables when it comes to exteriors and interiors too. Honda has tried to make the Vezel look a lot more stylish and elegant in its own ways but still lacks certain areas which feel plain and simple for example- the chrome metal tape on the front is standard and hasn’t been changed even in the Jazz or the 2016 City.

The sides also have generic door handles and vaguely metallic keyholes which do not look good. Moving on to the initial look of the equipment in the interiors it looks like the cabin of the Vezel will be inspired by the Jazz and CR-V yet again. It looks very premium in texture and looks. The finishes in the interiors are available in two colors beige and white and are expected to be optional in India as well. Primarily the Vezel will be available in more than 4 different colors however the exact combination with its interior color options haven’t been disclosed yet.

Equipped with a high-resolution infotainment system, surround interior lighting, 4 high-quality Honda custom speakers and an automatic climate control system the Vezel successfully qualifies the prerequisites to be a part of the compact SUV segment in India. The Vezel. Additionally, it’s being rumored that the Vezel will be equipped with a rear parking camera, cruise control and steering mounted audio and multimedia controls are present to avoid or minimalize all-time human engagement.

Honda Vezel Expected Price

The Honda Vezel is expected to cost between 11 -12 Lakh INR as it’s existing model in Japan costs around the same. No details about the variants have been revealed so far but for the first time, Honda is going to pay equal attention in terms of selling it’s manual as well as automatic variant. The automatic being in petrol will be costing around 1 lakh more than the manual diesel transmission. In totality, the Vezel’s pricing will have a great impact on the competitive mini SUV segment creating more options for customers to choose from.

Honda Vezel Comparison

In the compact SUV segment, many automakers try to create space for their own product as it is the hottest selling. Honda has similarly pushed forward the Vezel to compete against other vehicles in the same segment such as the Renault Duster, Ford Ecosport, and the Hyundai Creta.

The Vezel holds a superior position in terms of a greater length making it more spacious with greater boot space storage in comparison to the Ecosport and the Duster. Being a Japanese origin car it is often a complaint by the consumers that tall height people can find it difficult to have a comfortable drive. This continues to be a problem even in the Vezel whereas the Ecosport and Creta offer a higher ceiling making commuting and long drives comfortable.

On the other hand, when it comes to the engine it is expected that the Vezel will have a 1.5 L engine which is 0.1l lesser than the one in Creta. The Vezel will have a hybrid I-VTEC 4 cylinder 16 valve engine which will be the second most powerful after the Creta’s 1.6 L dual VTVT engine. The Creta, however, offers a greater variety of engine specifications to choose from (The 1.6l being in the base model and the 2.0l in the top end).  Despite a later scheduled Launch of the Vezel it still not expected to offer so many engine specification options.
